Junk Removal Services KPI Dashboard in Excel

The Junk Removal Services KPI Dashboard in Excel tracks 14 KPIs across 6 groups on one month-driven scorecard. Every KPI shows MTD and YTD actual, target, achievement %, a traffic-light status and a prior-year comparison, and 3 of the 14 are scored as lower-the-better. In the September 2025 sample the cards read 7 On Target, 4 At Risk and 3 Missed for the year to date, with average achievement of 100.3% MTD and 98.5% YTD.

Junk removal companies juggle trucks, crews, quotes, disposal fees and customer arrival windows, and the numbers usually live in separate reports. A junk removal services KPI dashboard pulls them into one monthly review: did crews arrive on time, did quote requests turn into paid jobs, how much material was kept out of landfill, did disposal and job costs stay under target, and is the business ahead of last year? This template answers those questions in plain Excel formulas, with no macros or Power Query.

This post covers the Excel KPI Dashboard edition, the month-picker family with traffic lights and dedicated KPI Trend and KPI Analysis pages. A separate Junk Removal Services KPI Scorecard in Excel also exists as a different card-style family.

Key Features of the Junk Removal Services KPI Dashboard

  • 14 KPIs for junk haulers. Jobs Completed, On-Time Arrival Rate, Truck Utilization Rate, Job Cycle Time, Booking-to-Job Conversion, Same-Day Booking Fill Rate, Average Revenue per Job, Landfill Diversion Rate, Tonnage Hauled, Disposal Cost per Ton, Customer Satisfaction, Repeat & Referral Rate, Cost per Job and Fleet Availability.
  • Six KPI groups. Operations & Dispatch (4 KPIs), Sales & Booking (3), Sustainability (3), Service Quality (2), Financial (1) and Fleet & Safety (1).
  • One month picker. Cell D6 on the KPI Dashboard is a dropdown of the twelve months of the reporting year. The scorecard, the seven summary cards and the KPI Analysis page all follow it.
  • Direction-aware achievement. Achievement is Actual / Target for Upper The Better KPIs and Target / Actual for Lower The Better KPIs. Job Cycle Time, Disposal Cost per Ton and Cost per Job are LTB, so beating those targets scores above 100%.
  • Clear status rules. On Target from 100%, At Risk from 95% to 99% and Missed below 95%, set in plain formulas in columns L and U.
  • Room to grow. The sheets are wired for 22 KPIs; 14 are filled in and the remaining rows are live and empty.
  • Nothing to install. VLOOKUP, MATCH, INDEX and COUNTIF only. It opens in Excel 2013 and later and in Excel for the web.

Dashboard Pages Explanation

The download is a ZIP with the .xlsx workbook and the Excel KPI Dashboard User Manual PDF. The workbook has 11 sheets, walked through below in order.

The Home page links to the three dashboard pages (KPI Dashboard, KPI Trend, KPI Analysis), the three input sheets (Actual, Target, PY) and the reference sheets (KPI Definition, Read Me, Get More Templates). A “What this template does” panel summarises the month picker, direction-aware scoring, adding KPIs without formulas, charts that follow the selected KPI and the no-install design.

KPI Dashboard

The heart of the workbook. Seven cards sit across the top: Total KPIs Tracked (14), On Target YTD (7), At Risk YTD (4), Missed YTD (3), Improving vs PY MTD (8 of 14), Avg Achievement MTD (100.3%) and Avg Achievement YTD (98.5%). Below them, each KPI row carries its group, name, unit and type, then a Month to Date block and a Year to Date block with Actual, Target, Ach %, Status, Prior Yr and vs PY.

The September 2025 sample shows how the scoring reads. Jobs Completed hit 674 against a target of 627, an On Target 107.5%. Cost per Job came in at 165.43 USD against a 172.77 USD target, which scores 104.4% with a green down-arrow because lower is better. Same-Day Booking Fill Rate reached 40.50% against 47.15% and is Missed at 85.9%, and Disposal Cost per Ton at 61.97 USD against 58.66 USD is Missed at 94.7%.

KPI Trend

Select a KPI in cell B4 and the page shows its KPI group, unit, type, owner, priority and frequency, plus its formula and definition. A twelve-month table lists MTD and YTD actual, target, prior year, achievement and status, and a vs Prior Year block. Two charts follow: MTD Trend and YTD Trend, each with actual and prior-year columns and a target line.

The sample is Jobs Completed, a Critical KPI owned by the Operations Manager. September MTD is 674 against 627 (On Target at 107.5%), while YTD is 5,667 against 5,520 (On Target at 102.7%). August and November both dipped below target and show as Missed in the MTD column, a pattern that is easy to spot in the chart.

KPI Input – Actual

This year’s results, one row per KPI with an MTD and a YTD column for every month. Cell E3 holds the first month of the reporting year; change it and the Target sheet, the PY sheet, the month dropdown and every title re-base.

KPI Input – Target

The same layout for targets. The month headers follow the Actual sheet, so you never retype them.

KPI Input – PY

Last year’s results, with month headers shifted back twelve months from the Actual sheet. These feed the Prior Yr and vs PY columns and the prior-year columns in both trend charts.

KPI Definition

The master list every other sheet follows. Each row holds KPI number, group, name, unit, formula, definition, type, owner, priority and frequency. For example, Landfill Diversion Rate = Tonnage Recycled or Donated / Total Tonnage Hauled x 100, owned by the Sustainability Lead; Truck Utilization Rate = Billable Truck Hours / Available Truck Hours x 100, owned by the Fleet Coordinator; Disposal Cost per Ton = Total Tipping and Disposal Fees / Total Tonnage Hauled, LTB.

For junk haulers who want a disciplined monthly KPI review without another subscription, this Excel workbook sits in the sweet spot.

Who Should Use This Template

Perfect for:

  • Owners of residential, commercial and franchise junk removal and hauling companies
  • Operations managers, dispatch leads and fleet coordinators
  • Sales and booking managers focused on quote conversion and same-day fill rate
  • Sustainability leads and finance controllers reviewing landfill diversion, disposal cost per ton and cost per job

Not a fit if:

  • You need online booking, crew dispatch, route planning or invoicing
  • You need a weighbridge ticket log, a waste transfer or disposal record, or an environmental compliance record
  • You want live data pulled automatically from a field service platform or truck telematics

Real-World Use Cases

Carlos owns a six-truck residential junk hauling business. On the first working day of each month he enters jobs completed, on-time arrivals and truck utilization, selects the month and prints the KPI Dashboard for his crew leads. The At Risk rows become the agenda.

Aisha runs bookings at a regional junk removal franchise. She selects Same-Day Booking Fill Rate on KPI Trend and compares each month with last year, then uses the Bottom 5 table to decide where the call team needs more same-day capacity.

Tom is sustainability lead at a commercial clean-out company. He watches Landfill Diversion Rate and Disposal Cost per Ton on the YTD block and uses the Performance by KPI Group table as a single view of how sustainability compares with the rest of the business.

Advantages of the Junk Removal KPI Workbook

  • One review, one dropdown. A single month selection updates the whole scorecard and the analysis page, which keeps meetings short.
  • Fair scoring for cost and time KPIs. The LTB flag stops a falling cost per job or shorter job cycle time from reading as a failure.
  • Sustainability on the same page as revenue. Diversion, tonnage and disposal cost are scored with the same traffic lights as bookings and crews.
  • Ownership built in. Every KPI carries an owner, priority and frequency, so each red light has a name next to it.
  • Low cost. A one-time purchase instead of per-user monthly fees.

Opportunities for Improvement

  • Manual data entry. Numbers are typed or pasted into the three input sheets; there is no connection to a field service platform, scale house software or accounting system.
  • YTD is stored, not calculated. You enter both MTD and YTD, which gives flexibility but means a wrong YTD value is not caught automatically.
  • Monthly grain only. There is no weekly, truck or crew-level breakdown; multi-territory operators would need one copy per territory.
  • Leftover file properties. The workbook’s File > Info title and description still name an aerospace and defense template from the builder. It does not affect any sheet or formula, but rename it before sharing the file.
  • Not an operational or compliance record. Tonnage Hauled and Landfill Diversion Rate are KPIs you enter, not disposal tickets or an environmental report.

Best Practices

  • Agree KPI definitions with each owner before entering data, especially what counts as an on-time arrival window and a same-day request.
  • Keep YTD consistent: accumulate counts such as Jobs Completed and Tonnage Hauled, and average rates such as Landfill Diversion Rate, as the Read Me recommends.
  • Take tonnage from your disposal and recycling receipts so diversion and cost per ton use the same weights.
  • Set realistic targets from last year’s PY sheet rather than round numbers.
  • Review the Bottom 5 table every month and assign one action per KPI.

If you are new to dropdown cells, Microsoft’s guide to creating a drop-down list in Excel explains how the month and KPI selectors work, and the VLOOKUP function reference covers the lookup formula the workbook relies on.

Frequently Asked Questions

What KPIs are in the Junk Removal Services KPI Dashboard in Excel?

The workbook includes 14 KPIs in 6 groups, from Jobs Completed and On-Time Arrival Rate to Booking-to-Job Conversion, Landfill Diversion Rate, Disposal Cost per Ton, Cost per Job and Fleet Availability. You can rename them or add up to 22.

How do I track junk removal KPIs in Excel with this template?

Enter your monthly MTD and YTD values on the Actual, Target and PY input sheets, then pick a month in cell D6 on the KPI Dashboard. The scorecard, summary cards and KPI Analysis page update, and KPI Trend shows any single KPI over twelve months.

Does it need macros or Power Query?

No. The workbook uses plain worksheet formulas only, with no macros, Power Query, data model or add-ins. It opens as a standard .xlsx in Excel 2013 and later and in Excel for the web, with nothing to enable or refresh.

Can the reporting year start in a month other than January?

Yes. Set cell E3 on KPI Input – Actual to your first reporting month. The Target and PY sheets, the month dropdown and every sheet title re-base automatically, so a fiscal year starting in April or July works the same way.

Is this a booking, dispatch or disposal record system?

No. It is a KPI reporting workbook that scores the monthly numbers you enter. It does not store customer jobs, schedule trucks, log disposal or weighbridge tickets, or serve as an environmental or regulatory compliance record.

How does it compare with paid field service software?

Paid field service platforms run bookings, dispatch and invoicing on a subscription. This Excel template costs $12.99 once and focuses on a monthly MTD and YTD review against target and prior year, so it works well alongside the system you already use.
