The Tree Care Services KPI Dashboard in Excel puts 15 tree care and arborist business KPIs from 4 groups on one monthly scorecard. For each KPI it shows MTD and YTD actual, target, achievement percentage, a traffic-light status and a prior-year comparison. With the June 2025 sample month selected, the summary cards read 7 KPIs On Target, 5 At Risk and 3 Missed for the year to date, with average achievement of 98.7% MTD and 99.3% YTD.
Tree service companies usually keep crew hours in a timesheet, quotes in an estimating tool, storm callouts in a dispatch log and incident reports in a folder, so a monthly review means stitching several sources together. This Excel KPI Dashboard template puts operations, safety, quality and sales KPIs in one workbook, driven by a single month dropdown. It is the KPI Dashboard family from NextGenTemplates: a month picker, traffic lights, a KPI Trend page and a KPI Analysis page. It is not an analytical data dashboard, and a separate Tree Care Services KPI Scorecard edition with a different layout also exists.

Key Features of the Tree Care Services KPI Dashboard in Excel
- 15 ready-made KPIs for tree care. Crew Utilization Rate, On-Time Arrival Rate, Job Completion Cycle Time, Equipment Uptime Rate, Tree Removals Completed, Emergency Response Time, Callback / Rework Rate, Customer Satisfaction Score, Estimate-to-Close Conversion and Average Revenue per Job are among them, each with a formula and a definition.
- One month picker. A dropdown in cell D6 on KPI Dashboard drives the seven summary cards, all MTD and YTD columns and the whole KPI Analysis page.
- Direction-aware achievement. 10 KPIs are Upper The Better and 5 are Lower The Better, so beating a response-time, cycle-time, callback, incident or claims target scores above 100% instead of looking like a miss.
- Traffic lights and arrows. On Target from 100%, At Risk from 95% to 99%, Missed below 95%. Arrow colour tells you whether the movement is good for that KPI, which is why a falling callback rate shows a green down-arrow.
- Twelve-month trend for any KPI. KPI Trend redraws its attribute strip, twelve-month table and two combo charts from one KPI dropdown.
- Group roll-up and rankings. KPI Analysis summarises achievement by KPI group and lists the top five and bottom five KPIs on YTD achievement.
- Built to grow. The sheets are wired for 22 KPIs, so a new KPI typed on KPI Definition flows everywhere without formula work.
- Plain formulas only. No macros, Power Query, Power Pivot or add-ins. It opens in Excel 2013 and later and in Excel for the web.
Dashboard Pages Explanation
The download is a ZIP with the .xlsx workbook and the Excel KPI Dashboard User Manual PDF. The workbook holds 11 sheets; the ten you work with are shown below, and a Support sheet holds the helper calculations.
Home
The landing page groups the sheets into Dashboard Pages, Input Sheets and Reference and Help, with a short “What this template does” summary underneath.

KPI Dashboard
Seven cards run across the top: Total KPIs Tracked (15), On Target YTD (7), At Risk YTD (5), Missed YTD (3), Improving vs PY MTD (8 of 15), Avg Achievement MTD (98.7%) and Avg Achievement YTD (99.3%). Below them, every KPI row shows group, name, unit and UTB or LTB type, followed by a Month to Date block and a Year to Date block, each with actual, target, achievement %, status, prior year and vs PY. In the June 2025 sample, Crew Utilization Rate reads 80.26% against a 75.38% target for 106.5% MTD achievement.
KPI Trend
Choose a KPI in cell B4 and the page shows its group, unit, type, owner, priority, frequency, formula and definition, then a twelve-month table and two combo charts: MTD Trend by Month and YTD Trend by Month, each with actual and prior-year columns and a target line. The screenshot follows Crew Utilization Rate, owned by the Operations Manager, which is On Target every month except December 2025 at 97.8%.

KPI Analysis
This page follows the month picked on KPI Dashboard. Performance by KPI Group shows each group’s KPI count, On Target, At Risk and Missed counts, and average MTD and YTD achievement: Operations 102.5%, Sales 100.2%, Quality 97.6% and Safety 96.5% YTD. An Average YTD Achievement by KPI Group chart sits beside Top 5 and Bottom 5 Performing KPIs (YTD), led by Crew Utilization Rate at 105.0% and trailed by ISA-Certified Arborist Ratio at 90.3%.

KPI Input – Actual
This year’s actual results, with an MTD and a YTD column for every month. Cell E3 is the first month of the reporting year; change it and the whole workbook re-bases.

KPI Input – Target
The same grid for targets. Month headers follow the Actual sheet, so you never retype them.

KPI Input – PY
Last year’s results, with month headers shifted back twelve months from the Actual sheet. These values feed every Prior Yr and vs PY column.

KPI Definition
The master list of all 15 KPIs: group, name, unit, formula, definition, type, owner, priority and frequency. Owners include the Operations Manager, Dispatch Lead, Safety Director, HR Manager, Sales Manager, Quality Lead, Fleet Supervisor and Customer Success Lead. Every other sheet reads its KPI names from here.

Who Should Use This Template
Perfect for:
- Owners and general managers of tree care, tree removal and arborist businesses
- Operations managers and dispatch leads reporting crew utilization, on-time arrival and emergency response time
- Safety directors who want incident rate, audit pass rate and claims next to production KPIs
- Landscaping companies with a tree division that needs its own monthly KPI review
Not a fit if:
- You need scheduling, dispatch, GPS, estimates, invoicing or a customer database
- You need a safety management system, an injury and illness log, or evidence of pruning-standard conformance or arborist certification
- You want per-crew, per-site or per-job drill-down
- You want figures pulled automatically from job management or accounting software
Real-World Use Cases
A residential tree care owner reviewing quotes. At month end she types actuals, targets and last year’s figures into the three input sheets. Estimate-to-Close Conversion is On Target at 104.1% YTD, but Average Revenue per Job is At Risk at 96.4%, which tells her the pipeline is healthy and the question is job size, not win rate.
An operations manager running four crews. He reads Crew Utilization Rate, Equipment Uptime Rate for chippers and bucket trucks, and Job Completion Cycle Time together, then opens KPI Trend on each to see whether a weak month was a storm backlog or a pattern that needs a staffing change.
A general manager preparing the monthly management meeting. She starts from the Bottom 5 table on KPI Analysis, where Callback / Rework Rate and Property Damage Claims Rate sit as Missed, and brings those two KPIs to the top of the agenda alongside Safety Incident Rate (TRIR) and last year’s figures.
Advantages of the Tree Care Services KPI Dashboard
- One review, one file. Operations, safety, quality and sales KPIs share the same month, the same thresholds and the same layout.
- Fair scoring for time, rate and claims KPIs. Lower-the-better KPIs are inverted automatically, so a month with faster emergency response looks like a good month.
- Prior-year context everywhere. Every KPI carries last year’s value and a vs PY percentage for both MTD and YTD, which matters in a trade shaped by storm seasons.
- Easy to audit. Plain formulas you can trace, with no hidden model, query or macro.
- One-time cost. No subscription and no per-user fee.
Opportunities for Improvement
- KPI count in two text notes. The Home page (“every one of the 14 KPIs”) and the Read Me capacity note (“14 are filled in”) say 14, while the workbook ships 15. The cards, scorecard and analysis all count 15 correctly; edit the two text cells.
- Leftover example in the Read Me. The cumulative-or-average YTD note uses “aircraft deliveries, non-conformance reports” as examples, carried over from another industry’s template. Swap in tree care examples such as removals completed and storm callouts.
- Emergency Storm Callouts is set to UTB. More callouts answered scores higher. If you would rather treat storm volume as neutral or lower-the-better, change its type in column G of KPI Definition.
- Manual data entry. MTD and YTD values are typed on the input sheets, and nothing connects to job management, timesheet or accounting software.
- YTD is not derived. You store YTD yourself, which gives control over sums versus averages but means both columns need filling.
- Company-wide view. There is no per-crew, per-site or per-job breakdown.
- No compliance function. ANSI A300 Compliance Rate, ISA-Certified Arborist Ratio and Safety Incident Rate (TRIR) are calculated from numbers you enter. The workbook is not an audit, a certification record or an injury log, and it does not replace a qualified safety program.
Best Practices
- Agree each KPI’s formula and owner on KPI Definition before entering data, so the monthly numbers mean the same thing every time.
- Decide per KPI whether YTD is a running sum (tree removals, storm callouts) or a running average (rates, percentages, scores), and keep it consistent.
- Set cell E3 to the first month of your own reporting year so the dropdown and YTD columns follow it.
- Set realistic targets. With a 95% At Risk floor, stretch targets turn much of the board amber.
- Enter prior-year data for all twelve months so the vs PY arrows stay meaningful.
- Learn how the month list is built with Microsoft’s guide to the EDATE function and to creating a drop-down list.

Frequently Asked Questions
What KPIs are in the Tree Care Services KPI Dashboard in Excel?
It ships with 15 KPIs in four groups: Operations (5), Safety (4), Quality (4) and Sales (2). They include Crew Utilization Rate, On-Time Arrival Rate, Emergency Response Time, Customer Satisfaction Score, Estimate-to-Close Conversion and Property Damage Claims Rate. You can edit them or add more, up to 22.
How do I track tree service KPIs in Excel with this template?
Type monthly MTD and YTD actuals, targets and prior-year values on the three input sheets, then pick a month in cell D6 on KPI Dashboard. The scorecard, traffic lights, summary cards and group analysis all recalculate from that one choice.
Does it need macros or Power Query?
No. It is a plain .xlsx built from worksheet formulas such as VLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH and COUNTIF. There are no macros, Power Query, Power Pivot or add-ins, and it opens in Excel 2013 and later and in Excel for the web.
Can the reporting year start in a month other than January?
Yes. Cell E3 on KPI Input – Actual is the first month of the reporting year. Set it to your own start month and the Target sheet, the Prior Year sheet, the month dropdown and every sheet title re-base automatically.
Is this a safety compliance or certification tool?
No. ANSI A300 Compliance Rate, ISA-Certified Arborist Ratio and Safety Incident Rate (TRIR) are figures calculated from numbers you enter. The workbook does not audit pruning work, verify credentials or keep an injury log, it does not replace a qualified safety program, and NextGenTemplates is not affiliated with ISA, ANSI or OSHA.
How does it compare with paid tree service software?
Tree service and field service platforms run scheduling, dispatch, estimates and invoicing on a subscription. This Excel KPI dashboard does one job, the monthly KPI review with targets, prior year and traffic lights, for a one-time price with no per-user fees.

Conclusion
This workbook gives a tree care company one monthly view of crew utilization, on-time arrival, cycle time, equipment uptime, safety, callbacks, customer satisfaction, estimates and revenue per job. MTD, YTD and prior-year comparisons, plus trend and group analysis, all run from a single month dropdown. It is honest about its limits: data is typed in, KPIs are company-wide, and it is not a compliance or certification record.
